green

i just want to keep in habit of blogging since i think it is a good source to get feedback as well as show others what i have been doing since school ended. this is just another experimental type piece that i am working on using the word "green." this is just the start as i am trying to get the letters finished before adding the other elements i plan to put in this piece.

3D type

Ever since I got introduced to 3D typography, I have been trying to do more and more complex pieces with each new design. This is one I have been working on for a friend that I thought turned out really nice.

Ads (3200)

I wanted to appeal to a more mature audience when doing the ads because I felt that I haven't had any works that is specific to an older age group. The magazine that I thought my ads would go in would be a Rolling Stone Magazine, or some other music magazine. I played off the word criminal by using mugshots for one add and wearing headphones so people would recognize the ad is for a music company. The other add I made myself be "arrested" by placing a tape in my back pocket and taking the film and wrapping them around my wrist to make it seem I was under arrest.

Self Mailier (3200)

I made one final change to my self mailer, which was to flip the front and the back. Now, the illustrations will be seen on the front of the mailer and the logo and other information is going to be seen on the back.

Self Mailer Revised (3200)

The inside took a drastic change for the better. I made the text on the inside left white and made Criminal Records orange every time it appeared. The right side with the vinyl and information underneath I changed making the background orange to pop out and also to keep consistent with the other projects by inserting the dominant color in this piece. The last change I made was to make the name of the bands underneath the vinyl white for readability.

Self Mailer Revised (3200)

The design changed slightly on the front cover as well as the back. On the front, I filled in the orange box with white so the company would be able to stick labels or write in the address to where the mailer would go. The back is the same except for instead of the characters being white with the orange stripes, I reversed it and made the characters orange with white stripes.

Stationary Revised (3200)

This is just the subtle changes I made on my stationary. The main thing I changed was the envelope. I made the back a solid orange and keeping the front and the inside gray.

Word Semantics

I made some slight changes to the design so I just thought I would post an updated version.

Word Semantics

Although I already have a great word semantics, Bakers Dozen, I been working on a new one using the word fragile. I saw a picture somewhere using broken text and I thought it would be a perfect concept for the word Fragile. I made my own version off the inspiration and this is the design that came from it.

book design (3200)

The title of this piece is called: Is This Real? This was a dream I had back in the day when I was still in high school. The dream was because in my town people/friends started experimenting with different "things" and would ask if I wanted to join them. After saying no, I went home and actually had a dream where I ate a shroom and ended up gazing into the sky where bubbles fell on me while laying in a whole field of mushrooms.

Self Mailer (3200)

This is the inside spread. The first picture is what it will look like when someone opens it up, except there will be a window on the record to show the events that are upcoming. The second picture is the events layed out, or what is going to be seen as someone spins the record.

Self Mailer (3200)

This is just an idea that i worked on since Wednesday. I am going for the other look and feel of the store, using the different art style they have as well as a grunge look going back to my mood board in the beginning of the semester, instead of the professional look I used for the previous two projects. This is the front and back spread.

stationary board (3200)

This is what my final stationary looks like. Instead of posting each piece individually this is how they all three coincide with each other. This is similar to the other one with only slight changes in all three pieces.

Portrait Update

I filled in the remaining areas as well as played with different shades of blacks to add some depth to the picture. One thing I did to make this pop more was to invert one of my layers which really brought out the glasses and shine on the glasses to make it more visible. I am happy with how this turned out because at the beginning I had mix feelings on how good this would look.

Type Portrait update

I know I just posted an image earlier, but I did not think I would work on this today. But since I did I wanted to just post another update on this type portrait that is a little bit fuller than the last one I posted earlier.

Type Portrait

I just wanted to post what I have been working on the past week outside of class. This is a typographical portrait of myself using the words creative, artistic, and genius. This is just a little of what I have done and still have awhile to go, but I wanted to post and show the progress.

Stationary (3200)

This is an update on what all three of my stationary look like and how they relate together. I wanted to keep everything crisp and clean since the logo was so crisp. To do this, I kept the same orange, white, black, and some gray, on all three pieces so that when one person looked at one piece of stationary they would automatically realize that it belongs with the other pieces and to my specific company.

letterhead (3200)

I have one idea for the letterhead so far that I felt like posting up on the blog. This is just the front where i used the logo orange to make two bars on the top and bottom with the logo and image from the business card on opposite sides. I have an idea for the back if we need a back to our letterhead which I will post early next week.

business card(3200)

This is just some initial business card ideas I had at the bottom. The top image is what I'm going to focus on for the business card. I have to front ideas along with 8 back ideas playing around with different record images and placement.

type poem (3150)

For this project, we had to illustrate a poem using only type. I chose a poem called "A Sick Rose" by William Blake. My concept was to take the rose looking like it was sick with a rain cloud raining down on it using the line from the poem "Howling Storm." The idea for the rain cloud was inspired by cartoons where the character is followed by a rain cloud no matter where it goes, which is why there is only one small cloud coming into the piece from the top left corner.

type cal cover (3150)

i am still struggling to come up with a solution to my type calendar cover spread. i came up with a few more ideas, two different styles, that i just wanted to post on the blog and hope to get some good feedback. i changed the type in the background from the previous post to a cursive font to achieve a handwritten feel and a softer look. on the other design, i went with a maze background in white on a light grey background with the text over that just to keep everything more unified.

final event poster (3000)

so here is the final version of my event poster for the fox. i added one more cloud detail to balance the overall design as well as tweak the handle of the umbrella to make it a more smooth curve. i am very happy with the turnout especially since it took me quite awhile to finish it.

cover update (3150)

i just wanted to post an update on the cover i did for my type calendar. i added the date with a single statement at the bottom opposed to what i had before when i tried writing a statement in the format of the maze.

another update (3000)

this is just some more work i have done on the mary poppins event poster. i added an umbrella and some minor textures. i also added the information on a single line at the bottom feeling it fit most without giving up anything on the composition.

Final Logo Design (3200)

So this is my final logo design for Criminal Records. The logo is very simple just a C and a R rotated a bit to give the feel of motion. My idea came from after speaking with the client and discussing the idea logo being something that everyone would recognize and be able to draw while sitting in class or doodling on some paper. Although it is simple I feel that I made a strong mark making this a strong logo.

Criminal Logo (3200)

I finally put some on the computer. I have three different logos so far that I think with some more work they can be really strong. The color scheme is defiantly not final, I have still not found a defiant color that I think works well with the design.

Refined (3200)

I just took a couple of ideas and made a little larger image trying to clean up the lines to make it easier to transfer to the computer.

Criminal Sketches (3200)

These are the first stages of my logo rebranding for Criminal Records. I have around 60 initial sketches where I tried to get everything from my brain to the paper. The first couple pages are before I talked to the client and the last few pages are after meeting with my client. I tried to play off positive negative space using just the words and letters instead of a overly graphic approach.

Poppins Update (3000)

So i think i have the lettering finished with the colors. i started working on the shadows and background which still need some tweaking. i can now start to see the final piece coming together very nice. i still have some work to do and some finer details to add but i think it is starting to look really good and professional.

Poster Update (3000)

This is just an update on an idea with my event poster. I just wanted to add some nice color and for now went with a blue and pink color scheme. This is still not the final stage but wanted to show an updated "color" version.

calendar update (3150)

I did some more work on the month layout portion of my type calendar. I changed the color scheme on the March to different shades of green, yellow, and brown. I felt these colors suited the piece has a whole, although this may not be my set color scheme. On the April layout I changed some colors a bit and added lines where people will be able to write notes.

Mood Board (3200)

This is the mood board I created for Criminal Records. I wanted it to be simple with the 5 buzzwords being the focused so when looking back at it during the semester I would not have trouble finding them throughout the board and so I get an instant reminder. I made my focus around the 5 buzzwords which I found images to describe each one and then used pictures that I think describe the mood of the actually company which I would like to keep. The pictures are ones I took myself of the store.

ReBrand Project (3200)

These are just pictures of the outside of the store, Criminal Records, in Little 5.
